Alycia Matz completed her MFA in Costume Design at Northwestern University and currently resides in Novato, CA. Upon earning a BS in Psychology and a BA in Theatre at Indiana University, Alycia’s focus shifted to costume design as her means of exploring the intricacies of human behavior and interaction. She is enthralled by what clothing can say about a person—an immense psychological and sociological study within itself. She believes careful attention to the inner world of the character informs the details of the clothing. It is this attentiveness to detail that defines her approach not only to design, but as a template of processing everyday experience.

She has had the pleasure of working on a variety of productions, be it theatre, dance, opera, music video, or film. While Alycia considers herself a designer first and foremost, she has also worked as a design assistant, crafts artisan, first hand, and stitcher at various locales, including Indiana Festival Theatre, PCPA-Pacific Conservatory Theatre, Opera in the Ozarks, Northwestern University, A Noise Within, Meyer2Meyer Entertainment, and more. While at Northwestern University, Alycia also taught undergraduate introductory courses for Costume Design and Makeup Design, and she considers motivating and inspiring other visual storytellers to be among her greatest joys.
